rhythms and musical surprises and power
chords played by trombones . . . Lucard tickles the brain not only with his
stories, but with the melodies that carry them." "Most
of us get sick of songs that get stuck in our heads. The music of Lucard and [his band Irrational Exuberance]

normal "Lost" with its thought-provoking lyrics about a man losing

"She Wants One" is a chirpy piece
about a woman wanting a baby to the dismay of the man, and ending with a twist.
This is not folk music, but the songs are cleverly arranged and
performed. It was a great change of
pace— My
wife liked this CD, but then she likes weird things. A unique CD that should be

A Few Words From Malcolm About The CD Making this CD was one of the most fun projects I’ve ever worked on. It was a total blast and an honor to be able to record in the fabulous Western Jubilee Warehouse Theater. After seeing so many great shows — Peter Rowan, John McEuen, Jimmy Ibbotson, Norman Blake, Don Edwards — at this unofficial little theater, it was awesome to be able to sit on that stage, surrounded by old guitars, homemade quilts and posters for old western movies, and play my little tunes. |

| Even better were the folks I got to work and hang with during the project: Butch Hause at the controls (and also on bass and drums), Joe Uveges on back-up vox, Dwight Bement on the saxophone, Gina Abendroth singing gorgeous harmonies, Ernie Martinez playing dang near everything that moved, Owen Perkins on guitar, and John-Alex Mason thowing down slide guitar and vocals for “Sitting on Top of the World.” |

In the beginning there was the microphone ... And then there was Gina Abendroth
and she was awesome, singing harmonies on everything from "Moonboggle Boogie,"
"Two-headed Calf," "Pretty in Gray" and "Lost".

Meanwhile, the WJRC posse of Tyler, Kris, Scott, Kathleen, Dane, Jeff, Lorraine were always keeping it real and fun for the music to flow. These cats really understand what music and good times are all about; no wonder so much great music comes from this tucked-away warehouse downtown. Special thanks to Sean Cayton, Owen Perkins and Scott O’Malley for taking some great pictures of the recording session. |

Local bluesman John-Alex Mason has also recorded a fine CD at the Warehouse. He was kind enough to keep the tradition alive and come down and record one cut, our first and only take of the old traditional number "Sittin' On Top Of The World." Thanks to John-Alex for making me sound like I can play the blues too. |

Later, at Butch’s studio on Brighton, Ernie Martinez added banjo, mandolin and dobro; Jeremy Van Hoy and Andy Holst added bass and tenor trombones respectively. Matt Hause also added bongos on "City Wolf.” |

| Next came putting in all on a CD: The prolific sculptor and painter Steve Wood provided the cover art, while Jenna Shearn made a dynamite layout for the art, pictures and words inside the CD cover. Pictures by Owen Perkins completed the package and it was on to the CD release party back at Western Jubilee. |

It’s been said. Every CD needs an Owen.This is ours and we love him. Owen Perkins is simply a true blue musical friend who played guitar on "She Wants One," "Moonboggle Boogie," "Heart Attack Blues" and "Lost." |

And then there was the party...and it was good. It was everybody on the CD and more. John-Alex, Butch and Ernie came down from the Denver area; Jeremy came in from San Fran, and the forming group called Irrational Exuberance (Gerard Rouvenacht on bass, John Litchenberg on drums, Andy Holst and Eric Larson adding to the trombone mix, Owen on guitar, Greg Borom on keys, Gina on vox) crammed onto the Western Jubilee stage for one big jam. Meanwhile, at the door, Casey House, Tyler and Kris kept the house under control while I did my best to remember which song came next and who was supposed to be on stage. |

Most of all, thanks to those of you who came to the CD release party,
have bought, listened to the CD since then. A special shout out to our
friend and neighbor Vicky and all the other deejays at KRCC who have
consistently played the CD in southern Colorado since this sucker came out.
Also, a special thanks to KHEN in Salida for keeping the CD alive in the
Arkansas Valley. |

To me, this CD is more a gathering of friends, a front porch jam of
musicians and artists and friends. I think it’s a fun little CD and I feel
proud and lucky to have been able to work with so many great folks.
